  • 2001-04-16: "Windows Night"--Windows/Linux Application Equivalencies, Windows "Emulation" with WINE, VMWare, and VirtualPC.
  • 2001-05-21: "X-otic Hardware Night"--A Hacked I-Opener, Free/Open/Net-BSD comparisons and X-otic hardware it runs on, Linux/Wine and Word Perfect-8.
  • 2001-06-18: HAM/Wireless/Soundcard demo, Hardware T-Shooting (mainly).
  • 2001-07-16: DVD Ripping/VCD Encoding Demo, X-otic Sun Sparc demos, HAM/Wireless/Soundcard followup, Home DHCP/DNS HOW-TO, and a custom built, forced water,evaporative cooling tower overclocking setup(!).
  • 2001-08-20: Open House, Socializing Night (i.e. nothing definitive came together).
  • 2001-09-17: Cluster and Backup Night: Jeremy Man and Matt presented on Linux clustering, along with a follow up clustering talk by Chalres Peterson. Then Tom gave a presentation on doing Linux Backups on your home machines.
  • 2001-10-15: Open house, but we ended up getting to check out Matt's 802.11 wireless LAN hardware (7 NICs and POP) for $150(!), as well as some other cool stuff.
  • 2001-11-19: Video Capture demo/talk [cancled], and Grub boot loader demo/talk..
  • 2001-12-17: "The Future of Linux" discussion night. We look at at it all. The famous Halloween Docuemnts, market trends, and what industry pundits like the Gartner Group and Aberdeen Group/IBM comment on how Linux is positioned to take over the market by 2010. Also a study showing that the "Reasons Why People Are Migrating To Linux" are mainly stability and cost (i.e. savings). Looking for a real world case study that shows how running Linux over Microsoft in the enterprise can save your company millions? Look no further... Here it is; "The State of Corporate IT: A Case For Linux".

  • 2002-01-21: The famous "Rackspace Open-Source Open House". The local San Antonio user groups XCSSA, SATLUG, and Linuxcrue all came out to get a tour of the Rackspace Data Center, partake in pizza and drinks, as well as have a Q&A about what it is Rackspace does here in San Antonio.
  • 2002-02-18-: Lego Mindstorms demo/review, Apple Titanium Powerbook/OSX demo and Q&A, Linux PPC on Mac demo, and Handspring PalmOS/Visorphone demo and Q&A. Good overall meeting.
  • 2002-03-18: Embedded Linux demos. We showed how some discarded POS (Point of Sale) hardware could be reloaded with Linux, set up with the proper hardware/software, and turned into an embedded appliance box (home router, video monitoring station, etc).
  • 2002-05-20: Home Firewall night. Several presentations on various home firewall distros. More notes on various home firewall distros can be found here..
  • 2002-06-17: Running Linux on a Sony Play Sation 2 gmae console, Running Mac OS-X on an older PowerMac 7500, and various OpenGL apps & games on Linux.
  • 2002-07-15: Sharp Zaurus demo night. A lot of good info and links for hacking up the Sharp Zaurus PDA.
  • 2002-08-19: Hacking the MSN Companion to run non-Windows OS', making a home brew video->RBG scan converter for gaming consoles, designing PC boards from scratch on Linux, and running NetBSD on unique and interesting hardware.
  • 2002-09-16: Multibooting on Net-BSD. John Baker shows how to boot from CD, tape, even the network!
  • 2002-10-18: Embedded and SBC (Single Board Computer) demo night! Tom and John show off several embedded systems running various operating systems. Got some good pictures too!
  • 2002-11-18: Zolaris (NetBSD) on Sparc demo by John, and a review of RedHat8.0 (and needed fixes) by Tweeks. By request, Tweeks also gives his formal GRUB presentation also.
  • 2002-12-16: Dual head X11 demos on Sparc and Mac OS-X by John, and Tweeks presents on the Visor/Magellan GPS module. Then Tom and John give an ad hoc demo of how to portscan your own hardware for network vulnerabilities with N-Map.
