Yes and no. Automatic != instant, just as HDD platter(s) block count
!= file system block count even if the fs covers the HDD.

Badblocks shows you what is bad on the device at the 'platter' level
below the filesystem level and hence the HDD blocks may be remapped,
may not be remapped or could be flagged to be remapped by HDD firmware
vs those that may be flagged or yet to be flagged in the filesystem.

Are you saying you don't use any harddrives as all harddrives will
have some bad blocks or are you paying a premium for 'flawless' disks?
