Ok, bad clarification on my part.
Depending on how the drive is connected/used, SMART may not be
directly accessible w/o changing the physical connection. ( From <
http://smartmontools.sourceforge.net/#testinghelp >e.g. can not access
SMART thru a raid setup; certain HDD controllers; usb and firewire
busses; etc.)
Not shure if this is the case for the usb2 <hdd pin out configuration>
devices discussed previously.
