Probably so... Any layer of interface abstraction tends to pose a problem in
my experience. Even some of the simple SATA controllers that are included
with dell systems (for example) obfuscate the direct hardware access... even
if you're not using their built in RAID features. I hope this fact changes
in the future and people start designing their chipsets with more forethought
into issues like this. Some kind of virtual device in the controller chipset
that can poll hardware by proxy would be cool.
