And before you tell me that early Windows didn't have DLLs, be aware
that early 386BSD didn't have them either.  Everything was statically
linked IIRC.  Certainly if we go by history, there was a time before
dynamic linking for all of the OSes, although for some that was before
they existed. ;-P
