Heya,

If anyone here wants a cable modem that has a console port, I can add
one to an SB4200 for a small fee ($25). It takes a bit of effort; I
destroyed one modem getting the hang of it and have cut & burnt
fingers as a consequence. The console port allows you to interrupt
the boot process and get it to boot from the LAN port instead of the
HFC side. The result is that you can flash new firmware, which can
give you more control over the modem itself, including access to its
SNMP functions, control over the upload and download speeds, control
over the number of allowable IPs, though I do not recommend exceeding
what you are given, as it probably would violate your terms of
service.

I also have one extra serial port module (they are normally $27), and
an alternate firmware. I'll sell you the serial module and flash the
new firmware for an additional $25.

You can get the SB4200 modem used on E-bay for about $25.
