Internal short probably between cells. Pull them out (with gloves on) and
take a damp cloth and wipe down all the surfaces that it leaked onto..
(and throw away the cloth and dispose of the batts at a recycle center)

Probably the former.. Just get the voltage and AH rating from them and go to
AlTex to price replacements. Make sure that the new ones are the same
dimensions.
