I have a buddy at work named Mike who just got a new cherried out Toshiba
laptop from Best Buy. Of course it has vi$ta on it as well as a ton of
trial software that he was probably never going to use, and he knew that.
He immediately took it over to the Geek Squad to have them take it off.
According to Mike they immediately started hassling him about it till he
finally had to say "Look, take this sh!t off or I am going to return it".
Well they obliged and of course charged him for it. When he got it home he
plugged in the Ethernet port, acquired an ip address, fired up internet
explorer 7....and went nowhere.
After he called me over to see what was wrong I found that apparently some
spiteful geek set a "content advisor" password and blocked out ALL
websites. I had to go into the registry and delete a key to get it back to
normal. At the time I was just concerned about getting it to work but now I
wish I would have copied the key and then try and crack it later to see what
kind of password was applied.
Just another reason to not trust the Geek Squad.
