Hey all!
We have a double helping of technical presentations this month!
First up:
we have Chuck Tetlo (form SATLUG fame) giving a presentation on "Virtual
Website Hosting on Bluequartz Software". If you ever wanted to know a quick
and easy way of doing web hosting yourself but lack all the skills needed to
setup Apache, MySQL, DNS/Bind, etc, then you need to check out this session!
Chuck is going to be covering some really nice and easy to use web server GUI
software tools that will turn the everage Linux box into a Web v-hosting
server with one of the easiest point-and-click control panel suites out there
called Bluequartz. There's even an easy to use Setup Wizard that makes
Bluequarts setup a snap! Chuck's got a really nice dual projector
presentation to give on this subject, so come check this one out! (screen
shots and other web links on the http://xcssa.org web site)
Next Up:
Our own Travis H. is going to do a presentation on "Dynamic Firewall Daemon".
The Dynamic Firewall Daemon sets up (and optionally) maintains your packet
filter (e.g. netfilter, iptables, etc) in real time. In intrusion Detection
lingo, DFD is what's called an "R-box", or in other words, it can react to
events, talk to your firewall, and make firewall rule changes dynamically!
Oh.. and did we mention that Travis is the author of DFD and TBK (The Black
Knight, the iptables flavor of DFD)? If you want some really in depth notes
on how to soup up your regular iptables firewall with DFD, this is a
presentation that you won't want to miss!
This is going to be a really good, in dept night of presentations that you
won't want to miss!
Cheers!
