My uncle works in the Dallas AT&T NOC (previously SBC NOC). In fact, he says
that the new U-verse crew is taking over their high dollar NOC projector
wall.. and pushing them out of the production NOC. He says that they the way
that they're building out the U-verse team is by replacing dozens of seasoned
network and telecom engineers with non-engineer middle managers that are all
running the U-verse wall. In many cases not knowing or understanding the
technology that's behind the pretty iconized network diagrams and utilization
graphs. Real shame.

I suppose if they don't get their operational act together and beef up on the
engineering side of the house, that they market will do what the market does
and dismiss their system as a steaming pile.

Actually, copper over short haul has nearly the same bandwidth as fiber. It's
just that the majority of the cable that is out there is used for long haul
applications where the impedance seriously limits bandwidth.
