For the last week or so, I've been trying to reach Tom about a proposed
presentation, but have heard nothing from him.
So, as a last-ditch effort, I'll spam the mailing list with an executive
summary:
I'd like to propose a topic/demonstration for the XCSSA meeting on
18 June that'll let me kill three birds with one stone (i.e., I can
go to the XCSSA meeting, present a topic that fits in with the class
I would otherwise be holding that night, and I'll have workspace to
actually install and configure a machine I've been wanting to use).
I'd like to call it "Pizza and Beer" since it involves a SPARCstation 5
and a Sun Six-Pack disk enclosure. May also involve vodka and Milk of
Magnesia (Phillips Screwdriver).
It may be review for some, but the topic(s) involved are:
Serial ports and serial consoles, Netboot/Diskless systems,
Alternate installation methods, and RAIDFrame setup.
All are presented from a *BSD perspective, since that's the focus of my
class, with NetBSD used as the basis for the example/demonstration.
See the NetBSD web site, documentation links, and the manual pages for
"diskless", "tip", "remote", "raidctl", and the installation notes for
just about any platform--sparc in this case.
If this is too short a notice for the meeting, we'll be next door in
NTC 025-C and maybe we'll see you in July.
