Probably wandering way off topic here, but as an early adopter of CF
bulbs, I've probably gone through 10-15 in the past 5 years, either
through manufacturing defects, brown outs (those will really kill off
CFs), or by accident (my mother-in-law used the dimmer for one of our
fixtures, which I have since removed). Even last week a 24W CF burned
out in my hallway that was only there for 2 years, and I was quite lucky
it didn't start a fire (the plastic housing was all brown and melted).
I know I'm saving electricity and cooling costs for my home for sure,
but if I'm throwing away 2-3 bulbs per year, what happens when my whole
neighborhood is doing that? My whole city? Then it adds up.
