Hi Tweeks,
Sure, I can make it to the meeting on Monday. And I'm always
prepared to talk/debate about renewable energy, and also nuclear
(which I don't endorse, but I always try to keep an open mind). I
hosted two discussion parties about these two topics earlier this
year. In February, I lobbied my Texas legislators against new coal
power; there was a plan to build 18 new coal plants in Texas.
BTW, my friend might not have been expaining it correctly before, but
it appears there may be something to this "efficient computer power
supply" business. He sent me this comment:
As for my power supply, look up http://www.80plus.org/
consumer manufacturers Antic EA380 and see the test report they
did.
I'm now planning to "diversify" my renewable energy credits. Half to
Windtricity, and half to someone else who guarantees "additionality",
which CPS has so far declined to guarantee. Additionality means that
the credits are supporting new projects which wouldn't have been
built otherwise.
Wikipedia has a good entry on REC's, which describes additionality in
the last section.

I'm planning to put the other half of my credits into NativeEnergy,
which goes to considerable lengths to ensure additionality:

And they appear to be a direct investor, not merely a credit broker
reselling credits from who-knows-where.
For those of you who wouldn't want to "rent" renewable energy, but
might consider "investing," I'm sure there are many investment
opportunities also, but that's a bit outside my scope. One way or
the other, this is a growing industry now and for the foreseeable
future; it's been featured in Wall Street Journal, for example.
I thank you Tweeks for reminding me of the Festival and giving me an
excuse to write about renewable energy.
