I agree whole heartedly that the electric companies are a MONOPOLY.
But, there are not many if any laws fully protecting that monopoly.
If you want, you can start your own power company, plant poles, stirng
a bunch of wire and sign up customers.  It's just that the
infrastructure is way too expensive to build and maintain to enter
that market place.

I won't bother to argue the rest of the points.  It's not something
that I care enough about.  I was simply posting the views of people I
know from the electric companies side of the fence.  Just like
religion and editors, this is a topic that's ripe for flame wars and
I'll stop now.
