Hey all!
Well, at the suggestion of Luis from the mail list, to looks like November is
going to be our "LAN Gaming and Game Demo Night"! First up will be an intro
demo of the XBox 360 and its capabilities by Robert Rusk, followed by a
second demo of the Linux OSS multiplayer "thinking man's shoot-em-up",
Scorched3D by Tweeks. If any other gamer demo folks show up, we'll give each
of them a short demo time also. After the short demos, the games will
commence!
More info below...
XBox-360 Demo By: Robert Rusk
-----------------------------
Robert will be bringing in his XBox-360 to show some of it's capabilities and
hot new titles, including:
* "Quake IV" - with a bonus disc that has "Quake II" so you get two games
in one.
* "Rumble Roses XX" - female based pro wrestling (sounds PG13, has a
game rating "M"ature).
* "Star Wars II: The Original Trilogy" - ("Star Wars: The Complete Saga"
is supposed to come out this Xmas -RR)
* "Hitman: Blood Money" - (The movie based on this franchise comes out
two days after the meeting -RR).
Robert's presentations are always comprehensive, and authoritative as he does
a lot of writing for the gaming scene zines.
Scorched3D Demo and LAN Gaming By: Tweeks
-----------------------------------------
Scorched3D is a game based loosely (or actually quite heavily now) on the
classic DOS game Scorched Earth "The Mother Of All Games". Scorched 3D adds
amongst other new features a 3D island environment and LAN and internet play.
Scorched 3D is totally free and is available for both Microsoft Windows and
Unix (Linux, FreeBSD, Mac OS X, Solaris etc.) operating systems.
After Tweeks' short demo, Tweeks and the SAC staff are going to have a private
LAN switch, cables, and power strips set up and available to "hook up to" to
play some rounds of this highly addictive, multi-player, media rich, open
source, modern classic game. (see screen shots here).
If you plan on playing, you will need:
* A gaming machine with nice graphics card (ATI or nVidia, w/working driver ;)
* GL rendering enabled (try running "glxgears -info" to verify it's working)
* Version 41.1 of Scorched3D installed and running (tweeks will have the RPM
and tarball on hand if you need to install it there)
* Headphones, mouse, power, and other needed cables might be useful (SAC will
have CAT5/network cables on hand)
Hope To See you there!
Where: SAC NTC (http://xcssa.org/#MAP)
When: Nov 19th, 7pm(ish)
Room: 025 (in basement)
Cheers!
Tweeks
