Hmmn, maybe SA-150 isn't so highly regarded. Here's some discussion:
http://www.audiokarma.org/forums/showthread.php?t=77020
"25 watts is what it draws from the wall socket." Output is more
like "3 watts on a good day." "I looked over the circuit trying to
see what they used for a RIAA EQ amp. Answer -- none." All the
"ceramic/magnetic" switch does is change the impedance. (For
magnetic, you're supposed to have a special equalization curve called
RIAA, which applies 40dB of frequency contouring.)
Maybe you just need more power, mon. Get yourself a bigger
integrated amp. Those are much easier to find without the optical
input. Or even a cheap $149 receiver will have more clean power than
that.
I you don't need the phono input, a power amp with level controls
might do just as well. They're even easier to find (AudioSource,
RadioShack, etc.) If you need source selection, get a selector box.
Next thing, watch out for blowing your speakers, if you haven't been
used to real power. Turn the level all the way down before plugging
jacks.
