"Robert.. dude. You don't need optical or SPDIF/coax to get rid of your XBox's
crappy sound. You just simply have a crappy little RatShack audio amp. The
thing's from the 80's for pete's sake. It probably has dried out filter caps
and can' reproduce the full 3watts of pounding audio that it's rated for.
Just go spend $20 on a new/cheap little audio amp or decent $60 set of PC
speakers and you'll be fine man."
Already tried my PC speakers and with the same results.
However, I can pull my JVC setup from my bedroom and try it with that.
And it never hurts to ask questions no matter how unusual because you never know what bounces back. Charles' expositions have been useful in my limited understanding on optical audio.
And you're right Tom. I do need a new amp although the old one seems to work fine for everything else. It's just that I haven't found anything close in terms of size and functionality to the old one in my travels. I know Radio Shack used to make a newer version of the same box but they don't anymore.
