[XCSSA] Sound issues with "The Darkness"

I just tried adjusting the sound within the game. Didn't make any difference whatsoever. In addition there is something in the Audio Options called "LFE Volume" and "LFE Cutoff". The manual doesn't say anything about what these are. And adjusting them didn't make any difference either.
As far as the Xbox 360 analog encoders not being the best, given the hardware issues that the 360 has been dealing with, it wouldn't surprise me if this was the case. I should point out, however, that audio CDs sound very good on the 360 so that might not be the only culprit.
I have also heard some of this kind of warbling in a couple of other 360 games but nowhere near the extent that is displayed in "The Darkness".
I may try to find an inexpensive amplifier, similar to the small amplifier box that I've had since the early '90s, but with an optical input. Any suggestions on that end?
In the meantime, since I have beat "The Darkness" (and obtained all single player Achievements) and "Kane & Lynch: Dead Men" (took me only about eight hours over two nights - a bit of a let down), I am now going through "Stuntman: Ignition". Pretty fun so far.
