You need to check for link light/status first.

Do they each have link lights? If not (and cancel out the chance that you're
not using a crossover cable), then I might suggest getting a cheap little $15
switch that has auto-xover negotiating for 10/100.... see if that helps
(either that or just make your own crossover).

No worries.. it looks like you either changed email addresses (and as such
were not a member and could not post) or excessive mailbox bounces caused
your subscription to be removed from the system. Both are common user side
problems I've seen a lot.
