Too bad Heathkit isn't around anymore. That'd be plenty of good practice.

fun putting mine together but lost it from lightning strike)
Also did a little variable-voltage power supply with a zener diode, all of this
while 14 and 15 years old, Advanced class ham. That lightning strike broke my
heart.
