They weren't offering these guys at first and, in fact, I e-mailed
them a few days ago about suggesting they add this to their inventory.
Dunno if it was just coincidence or whether or not they took the my
comments to heart, but the new Seagate low power (Barracuda LP) drives
are available:

http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16822148411&Tpk=Seagate%201TB%20LP

They go up to 2TB, but NewEgg is only offering the 1TB for now.

Average power for the 1TB is 3W, peak is 5.7W. Not too shabby,
although it does come at a cost of lower RPMs, and generally lower
performance. The spec sheet claims 95MB/sec which is enough to stream
most content.

Western Digital also offers their own low power drives (Green Power).
Theirs I think use more power at full RPMs but appear to slow down
their rotational speeds from what I've read. I've always been a
Seagate guy though so I haven't read up on these all that much.

Thought I'd share this since I know some other peeps are looking at
NAS solutions and this would work pretty well in a home NAS.

Assuming the wifey ok's it I'm buying two of these (for a RAID1). If I
do, I'll be happy to share my experiences.

Tim S.
